Whether it’s to grow, bury or build, the soil of this world is fertile enough to make all your dreams come true. But what happens when only a select few are allowed to do so? Will the land provide? Or will it reject some in favour of others? Will these farmers, dreamers and builders fight back? In a world where land is scarce and sacred, who deserves to reap its benefits?

TYPT is a free, intensive 4-week training for emerging Black theatre makers, aged 18-25. Designed to support artists to develop, devise and create an original theatre piece from scratch.

Director
We are delighted to be working with Kalungi Ssebandeke as the TYPT26 Director this year.
Kalungi Ssebandeke is an award-winning, trained actor with 18 years of experience across stage, screen, and audio. He is an Alfred Fagon Award–nominated writer for Assata Taught Me, which is to be revived at Riverside Studios in May with Kalungi as director and Co-Producer. He is the winner of the inaugural Passing the Baton commission at The Bush Theatre (2017), the JMK Directing Award—the most prestigious directing award for emerging directors—and the Roland Rees Bursary. Formerly Carne Associate Director at Theatre503, Kalungi regularly works as an Acting Tutor at LAMDA. He is the founder of Sse So Productions, which develops original screen, stage, and audio projects. He credits Talawa with launching his writing career having been a part of the inaugural Talawa Firsts with his play My Darling Wife.
